Application-specific pelletizing systems
The pelletizing of polymers is becoming more and more demanding. New polymer products require adapted processes, such as hot-melt adhesives and micropellets, in direct crystallization or recycling. In addition, environmental protection standards demand optimization of existing processes in plastics production and processing by the various industrial customers. MAAG supports this trend in relation to underwater pelletizing systems with relevant application-specific solutions. Our innovative strength and technology development give our customers scope to develop and grow their business.

Product overview application-specific solutions

Continuous Process (CP) System
Gala Underwater Pelletizing Systems are frequently used for the continuous and discontinuous production process of polycondensation polymer pellets (polyamides, polyester, etc.) downstream of a [...]

Crystalline Pellet Technology (CPT®)
The direct crystallization process avoids the use of expensive pre-crystallizers and crystallizers prior to transferring the PET pellets into the SSP process or other downstream post-treatment processes. The Gala CPT process complements [...]

Hot Melt Adhesives (HMA)
Gala Underwater Pelletizing Systems for HMA production are designed to be cost-effective at pellet rates up to 4,550 kg/h (10031 lb/hr). The typical Gala HMA production system includes a vessel, booster pump, melt pump, screen changer, [...]

i-Heat® Process (patent pending)
i-Heat® is a process that uses gas injection to separate and speed the pellets to the Gala dryer. An inert gas is injected into a key point in the process slurry line. This decreases the residence time and contact time with water, which [...]

MicroPellet Technology
A micropellet is typically around 0.5 mm to 1.0 mm in diameter, compared to an industry standard pellet size of around 3 mm. Micropellet technologies are often used, for example, in rotational molding processes, where the major advantage [...]
Hot-melt adhesive (HMA) and micropellets
MAAG’s systems for the production of hot-melt adhesive (HMA) are designed for pellet throughputs of up to 4,550 kg/h. They can be used as a stand-alone solution downstream of the extruder, or in conjunction with mixers and kneaders with melt discharge pumps.
Micropellets with grain sizes of 0.5 to 1.0 mm are a practically dust-free alternative to powder, and are gaining more and more attention in the polymer industry. In the masterbatch sector in particular, MAAG offers specific solutions that enable highly precise dosing of small quantities of micropellets with good dispersion.
Direct crystallization
The direct crystallization process involves keeping enough heat in the pellets so that they crystallize without needing additional external heat, which cuts energy consumption. A further aim is that the free-flowing pellets can be routed directly into their packaging, or to aftertreatment processes such as SSP. The Gala direct crystallization system’s CPT process enables customers in the polymer industry to implement such processes, and has been shown to be a superior solution.
Recycling
MAAG’s Gala pellet machines and underwater pelletizing systems also provide smart solutions for the growing market in the recycling of polymers of all kinds. This is focused on Gala’s range of centrifugal dryers. The i-Heat process, for which a patent application has been filed, offers the advantages of retaining the inherent heat and significantly improving the moisture content of the pellets.
